A board-ready line, not another experiment.
Board-ready AI strategy. Scored use-case portfolio across travel, insurance, roadside, and marketing. Governance framework before spend. The lab and engine in the paper are the proposed next stage, not a claim that they were built.
The story
How the work took shape.
Helix work · Advisory · Evaluate
Stage reached: Board-ready strategy and portfolio; the lab and engine are proposed next steps.
AI was already in the building as tools. Four businesses were about to shop separately. What they needed was a scored portfolio the board could fund.
- The situation
- A trusted member organisation spanning travel, insurance, roadside, and marketing. Experiments existed. What did not: a ranked line, a view of which cases needed a shared engine, or a governance frame sitting in front of capital.
- What we did
- Six-phase Evaluate. Discovery interviews across the business. Data and infrastructure scored. Use cases written as briefs, then stacked by engine dependency — lite, orchestrated, dependent — so a travel quote assistant was not treated as the same bet as an insurance simulation twin. Helix scorecard on value, feasibility, impact, readiness, ethics. Governance framework. Board document: Intelligent by Design. An earlier four-phase innovation programme had already taught the organisation what a reusable kit felt like. This work put an AI line on that cadence.
- What changed
- The conversation moved from tools to a system: uplift the core, enable new capabilities, shape future bets. Each business line could see its own stack. Capital would follow the line — not the loudest pilot.
- The evidence and status
- Board-ready AI strategy. Scored use-case portfolio across travel, insurance, roadside, and marketing. Governance framework before spend. The lab and engine in the paper are the proposed next stage, not a claim that they were built.
- The pattern
- If AI is already in the building as experiments, and four businesses are about to shop for tools separately, draw the line first. Score the cases. Name the engine. Then ask the board.
